The School

A new project launched by "Al Qalam School of Arabic Calligraphy" to coincide with the selection of "Cairo as the Capital of Islamic Culture" in 2020, embodying our strategic goals of highlighting "Historic Cairo as the capital of the Islamic creative economy".

• In the first season of the Arabic Calligraphy Endowment (Waqfiyya), Al Qalam artists present detailed, high-quality explanations of eight Arabic scripts, classified and arranged from single letters through their connections to sentences and exercises, along with an explanation of calligraphy tools and their materials, and how calligraphy and ornament can be applied to 6 different materials, with accompanying English translation. It is offered online and free of charge, so you can return to it and benefit from it at any time and from anywhere.
• This project comes in response to the digital shift Al Qalam is pursuing in its services, supported by the Ebda' Men Masr initiative of Bank of Alexandria, to sustain continuity of learning and overcome the challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, now and in the future. We hope the Endowment will help spread this art and make it a common good for all, and a building block for a new calligraphy renaissance.
