Artwork «هذا يوم ينفع الصادقين صدقهم» (This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truth) – Ottoman Jali Thuluth

A handmade artwork by the artist Maryam Rashad, featuring the noble Qur'anic verse «هذا يوم ينفع الصادقين صدقهم لهم جنات تجري من تحتها الأنهار خالدين فيها أبدا رضي الله عنهم ورضوا عنه ذلك الفوز العظيم» (This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truth. For them are gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. God is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is the great attainment), executed in Ottoman Jali Thuluth on natural ahar paper using black Shamnak ink and red calligraphy ink. The work consists of four interlocking calligraphic compositions, and the text is read from bottom to top, with the phrase «هذا يوم ينفع الصادقين صدقهم» (This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truth) in red at the beginning of the text, highlighting the standing of the truthful who affirm their Lord's oneness and their reward in the Hereafter, namely gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide forever, arriving at the essence of the reward in the words «رضي الله عنهم ورضوا عنه» (God is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him), an expression of the mutual divine contentment that is the great attainment. The work combines the beauty of interlocking calligraphic compositions with the depth of the Qur'anic meaning, in an authentic artistic treatment that reflects the richness of the Ottoman heritage in Arabic calligraphy.
